As we continue catching up on sharing some of our adventures from 2025, one trip we absolutely couldn’t skip over was our Labour Day weekend getaway to Tobermory with our friends Lisa and Rob.
From August 30th to September 2nd, we traded city life for campfires, hiking trails, sunsets, crystal-clear water, and some of the most peaceful cottage moments we’ve had in a long time. It was the kind of weekend that reminds you how important it is to disconnect from routines, breathe in fresh air, and simply enjoy the people around you.
And honestly? We already want to go back.
Cottage Life on Lake Huron
Lisa and Rob head up to a cottage on Lake Huron every year, and this summer they invited us along for the adventure. The moment we arrived, we instantly understood why they love it so much.
The cottage was absolutely beautiful — peaceful, quiet, surrounded by nature, and exactly the kind of place where time seems to slow down.
Our first evening was the definition of classic cottage vibes: burgers, hot dogs, and fresh corn from Elaine’s in Windsor cooking away while music played and drinks flowed.
We ended the night gathered around the campfire under the stars, listening to music, laughing together, and fully embracing cottage life.
There’s just something about sitting around a fire near the water that instantly makes stress disappear.
Hiking Through Greig’s Caves
The next morning, we woke up ready for adventure and headed to Greig's Caves.
Armed with our hiking poles and plenty of determination, we made our way through trails, rocky terrain, and some definitely challenging sections — but every step ended up being worth it.
The rock formations were incredible, and the views overlooking the water and forests were absolutely breathtaking. It’s one of those places where photos really don’t do the experience justice.
Huge thank you to Lisa and Rob for being our chauffeurs all weekend and introducing us to this style of vacation. Honestly… we could definitely get used to this slower pace of life.
Little Cove & Relaxing Cottage Afternoons
Later that afternoon, we made our way to Little Cove Beach for a quieter moment by the water.
The peaceful shoreline, calm waves, and beautiful blue water made it the perfect place to pause and simply take everything in.
Afterward, we headed back to the cottage to relax, recharge, and enjoy the calmness of being away from busy schedules and responsibilities.
Sometimes the simplest moments end up becoming your favourite memories.
Bruce Peninsula Boat Tour & Flowerpot Island
One of the biggest highlights of the entire weekend was our day exploring the Bruce Peninsula and visiting Flowerpot Island.
We boarded the Bruce Anchor Cruises Blue Heron glass-bottom boat tour and spent the morning cruising across unbelievably clear blue waters.
Along the way, we got to see the famous shipwrecks of the Sweepstakes and the City of Grand Rapids resting beneath the water. Seeing them through the glass-bottom boat was such a unique and surreal experience.
Once we arrived at Flowerpot Island, we spent the afternoon exploring the trails and natural beauty of the island.
We hiked to both the small and large flowerpots, explored caves carved out by years of erosion, visited the lighthouse area, and stopped by the small museum before eventually making our way back to the boat.
The entire island felt peaceful, untouched, and almost magical.
If you’re ever visiting Tobermory, Flowerpot Island is absolutely a must-do experience.
Sunset Skies & Northern Lights
As if the weekend hadn’t already been beautiful enough, our final evenings on Lake Huron gave us some truly unforgettable moments.
We had been told that the lake is often rough and windy, but somehow during our entire stay, the water remained calm and peaceful for days.
According to Lisa and Rob, that almost never happens.
Our final evening brought one breathtaking sunset after another, with the sky exploding into vibrant colours over the water.
And just when we thought the night couldn’t get any more magical… we caught glimpses of the auroras dancing overhead.
It honestly felt like nature’s way of giving us the perfect goodbye gift before heading home.
The Grotto & Singing Sands
Before leaving Tobermory, we made one final stop at one of the area’s most famous attractions: The Grotto.
And wow… they weren’t kidding when they said the hike was intense.
There was lots of climbing, plenty of tired legs, and definitely a few moments where we questioned our life choices on the trail — but the views at the end made every step completely worth it.
The crystal-clear blue water and dramatic rock formations were absolutely stunning.
On the drive home, we also stopped at Singing Sands Beach for one last peaceful moment by the water before officially wrapping up our weekend adventure.
Looking Back on Tobermory
Looking back now, this trip wasn’t about packed schedules or rushing from one attraction to another.
It was about slowing down.
It was about nature, sunsets, campfires, laughter, good food, peaceful mornings, and spending quality time with great friends.
Tobermory gave us exactly the reset we didn’t realize we needed.
Huge thank you again to Lisa and Rob for inviting us along and sharing this beautiful experience with us. We’ll honestly never forget it. 💛
❤️🧡💛💚💙
